PSA to the newer players out there, the 4.8 patch is likely to be an absolute car crash. It’s one of those occasions we get where the patch isn’t ready but it has to be pushed as there are new ships for sell and CIG needs the revenue. Expectations on stability should be really low, just a heads up
CIG - A full wipe is a full wipe, WIPE IT ALL, exec and Wikelo ships included or don’t bother at all. People were using duped aUEC to pay millions to pay players to help to farm those mechanics
Don’t bother with half measures. Either no wipe, or a 100% full wipe so we have a fully clean slate

Thinking about mining and the new insurance system, you pretty much HAVE to customise a mining ship to be able to crack decent rocks now, so assuming you lose your ship to bugs and issues a reasonable amount of times as normal then mining is about to get real expensive before you even get to mining?

Firstly, kudos to CIG for reaching out to the community and requesting feedback on these changes. This type of communication is just what is needed, maybe even engage before the changes are made into the PTU? Some of the communication and feedback received will be of little use, but some will be very helpful and might possibly contain the answer you need. So keep it up CIG, keep engaging on these types of changes.
So yeah, my thoughts on the weapon changes (along with the armor nerfs)…. I have to be honest and say I’m disappointed and in my opinion they are far worse than 4.7.
In 4.7 there is the starting of a rock, paper, scissors dynamic on gun choice and I’ve seen more variety in loudouts than I have for a long time. This came about from the armor system, which was very well received CIG! There wasn’t an obvious “best” gun, and it begs the question… why are you messing around with this? Everyone seemed quite happy for now on armor and gun balance. Is it just something you think? Or have you seen some data that compelled you to act? Share this with us too, share your reasoning.
But with the proposed changes for the 4.8 PTU you have made a lot more guns damage more ships again, bringing back the light fighter meta, and created a situation where one gun is obviously the best (attrition/ardor) and completely wiped out some other weapons as viable options. This is where my disappointment stems from, even though it's only the PTU, CIG how did you not look at these changes and quickly realise its lop-sided and unbalanced? It's immediately obvious to anyone remotely experienced in the game, it should be obvious to you too. The Attritions hit harder and move faster than the CF repeaters or NDB’s, completely negating those entire classes as sensible options. You’ve done some things with range on the NDB’s but having a 2.5KM range instead of 1.5KM is meaningless with the radar pip changes (unless you are changing those?) and the gun speed. If something has 1400 ammo velocity, you’re not hitting much from 2.5KM…. Again you should know this.
So my solution? Keep it more along the lines of 4.7 but with some tweaks. I have attached to this post a damage graph showing in ballpark figures what can damage what, and also some notes at the bottom. This is a slight tweak on 4.7, I want to bring cannons into play a little more, giving lightstrikes and M series a place, and an emphasis on meaningful improvements on Size 4 and size 5 weapons to give those large turrets some meaning (BUT, keep that power creep in check on future light and medium fighters CIG, no more size 5+ guns blowing the balance out again).
I’ve submitted my feedback on the form CIG has posted, however naturally does not allow the commentary and presentation I can provide here. Bring back rock, paper, scissors to weapons loudouts CIG, we don’t want a universe full of attritions.

Not all the guns have proper stats yet, especially the size 10 cannon and size 9 laser beam, however the side 8 “Rage” cannon looks competitive and the “Striker” repeater has high ammo velocity for a size 6 gun (1600)
We have military ships with civilian compenents, civilian ships with military complements, industrial ships with civilian compenents etc etc.
Military ships, give them all military components (of varying grades of course), Civilian ships, all Civilian grade, Industrial ships, all industrial. Etc etc
We also have gun loudouts that often have a notable shot velocity differences giving two pips, no ship manufacturer would loud it out this way. Amend that.
Finally can we please have a confirmation button for when we claim a ship WITHOUT upgraded compenents, we don’t want to be accidentally hitting that and losing compenents that took hours and hours to source.
