KKR Have Never Used the Impact Player Sub the Right Way.

KKR Have Never Used the Impact Player Sub the Right Way.

The solution does not need a full rebuild KKR can solve most problems with two smart Impact Player setups

Scenario 1:

Play Finn Allen in the team

Keep Manish Pandey and Tejasvi Dahiya as Impact Player options

If early wickets fall, bring in Manish Pandey to stabilize

If the innings is already set, bring in Tejasvi Dahiya for aggressive finishing

Two different batting profiles, one flexible setup, no wasted spots

Scenario 2:

Keep Varun Chakravarthy as the spin anchor

Keep Rovman Powell and Pathirana as Impact Player options

If chasing a big target, bring in Powell for attacking intent

If defending and needing death bowling, bring in Pathirana instead

One slot covering two completely different match situations

KKR already have the players and squad balance to make this work.

One bottleneck:

This makes the situation even harder to understand

Both Finn Allen and Tejasvi Dahiya are wicketkeepers

KKR do not need Raghuvanshi to keep wickets just to maintain a keeper in the team

Finn Allen is an international WK batter with experience at the highest level

Tejasvi Dahiya has been a wicketkeeper throughout his domestic career

At this point, there is no clear logical reason why neither of them is being given chances to keep wickets.

The Favoritism Problem

Abhishek Nayar has been Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s mentor since childhood. Raghuvanshi himself has publicly called Nayar “my guru and everything” and credited him as “the main man” behind his success. This is not speculation. It is confirmed in Raghuvanshi’s own words across multiple interviews.

On the other side, Nayar and Rahane are former Mumbai teammates. As recently as December 2025, Nayar publicly called Rahane a “proper team man” and defended his place even before the season began.

When the results started going wrong, fans and former India players like Kris Srikkanth publicly demanded that Rahane be dropped, calling his appointment as captain “the wrong move.” India Today also reported widespread fan backlash after Rahane’s golden duck against Gujarat Titans.

Despite all this, neither Rahane nor Raghuvanshi have been dropped. This is happening even when the data clearly shows that their partnership slows down the middle overs against big targets and costs KKR crucial matches.

When a coach has a childhood bond with one player and a strong personal history with another, it becomes difficult to call it selection. It starts to look like loyalty.
