When to report a Section 21 to the DWP (England)

My son lives in an HMO and received a Section 21 notice on 29.04.26, the day before his UC claim was finalised. He received his first payment yesterday, 06.05.26.

He sent an email to the lettings agency, querying the Section 21 as it contradicted a very recent telephone conversation with them, but has not received a reply, and realistically he is probably not going to, and therefore must now consider the Section 21 to be final, requiring him to vacate his room on 30.06.26.

At what point should he inform the DWP - straightaway or when he moves out and into a new accommodation? He has read advice that supports both - does anyone have the 'official line' on this? Obviously he is still in his current accommodation and paying rent there, so his circumstances have not yet changed, and won't until the end of June, but do the DWP still need to be told of the Section 21 now?

Thank you for any advice.
