In the world of dragondom, wyverns are a draconic species and are distant cousins of true dragons. Wyverns are defined by their two hind legs and two wings that also serve as limbs. Unlike true dragons, wyverns cannot breathe fire, nor do they have sapience, although they are highly intelligent for being a feral animal. Wyverns can also be tamed, but only by Kobolds due to their draconic nature, allowing them to bond with a wyvern. Although training a wyvern for controlled flights requires lots of training and patience on a Kobold’s part. Once tamed, wyverns are useful to Kobolds for travel (since they cannot ride true dragons) and for sporting activities.

Right now, we can see a Kobold riding a wyvern over the cloudy skies. This rider’s name is Krall, and he is an upper-caste Kobold who lives in a countryside university town. The wyvern he rides is a large male Gray Mountain Wyvern, which he named Machtus, measuring around 30-35 feet from snout to tail. Krall participates in his university’s wyvern racing team and is currently doing a solo training session with Machtus. Riding a wyvern is similar to riding a horse, requiring a saddle and harness, although Krall has to wear a belt around his waist, which is tied to the harness straps to make sure he stays secure. As Machtus dashes through the air, Krall feels a rush of adrenaline, already anticipating intense races and future victories with Machtus.

Fritz first met Amelia at a festival, and while this wasn't first time he hung out with a female Kobold at the town festival, this time, it was different. As a young adult Kobold, Fritz had already begun to view his female counterparts not only as fellow clutch-mates, but as a future wife, and Amelia saw it the same way to Fritz as a husband. However, Fritz and Amelia did not confess these feelings initially, enjoying the entertainment at the festival.

Their first night together at the festival was defined by small talk and laughter, but by the end of the night, sitting together in a secluded part of the festival, Fritz confessed his feelings for her, and Amelia confessed the same for her feelings to Fritz. Looking at each other's eyes, they slowly went in for a kiss, their snouts meeting each other's, and nudging their foreheads together as an act of mutual love.

Now openly in love with each other, Fritz offered Amelia to stay the night in his room, which was not that far away from the festival grounds. Amelia eagerly agreed, and after a brief walk down the town streets whilst holding claws together, they arrived to his bande's communal living quarters. In here was his room, a small hole in the wall that had nothing much, only a single bed as the only real piece of furniture inside of it.

However, this was more than enough for Fritz and Amelia, who held each other in a cuddling embrace as they rested on his bed, closely pressing against one another whilse they held claws. As they enjoyed each other's presence, they both internally fantasied about their future together, be it marriage, living together happily, and even potential hatchlings. As both Fritz and Amelia dozed off, they would have the best sleep of their lives.

Bashenror was one of the most powerful dragon monarchs of the past, uniting the dragondoms under his leadership, one of the few dragons to full off such a feat, and conquered all the non-dragon kingdoms and empires of the continent.

Born as a black dragon, he was known originally by his hatch name of Erebus, although he gave himself the title of Bashenror during the peak of his conquests. When he was a young adult, the dynasty he was a member of was wiped out during an intra-dragon war, with him being left as the sole survivor. He would be taken into by another dragon dynasty after this, although he was a no-name low-ranking warrior initially. Although his life took a new turn when he received a vision from Tiamat. In this vision, Tiamat would tell him that he was chosen to lead the dragons into a new golden age and that he shall reign be the dragon lord of all dragon lords. After this vision, Bashenror fully committed himself to whatever fate Tiamat held for him.

Bashenror would rise up the hierarchy in the dynasty he was a part of, with his competitors perishing in intra-dragon wars or being outmaneuvered by his political genius. By the time he was an adult, he became the great dragon lord of the dynasty and sought to fulfill his divine mission to unify dragondom. Through a series of wars and dynastic intrigue, Bashenror would bring the majority of the draconic dynasties under his authority, promising great territories and divine blessing if dragon lords joined him. After this, Bashenror launched his conquest campaign against the non-dragon races, which lasted for hundreds of years, with the result being the majority of the known world falling under his domain.

With Bashenror's empire ruling the known world, he would be the supreme lord in this empire, with lesser great dragons lords co-ruling under his reign. As centuries passed, Bashenror grew larger and larger, reaching between 400 to 500 feet from snout to tail and becoming one of the most powerful dragon the species had ever known at that point. He would reign for over half a century when he passed away, being over 1,200 years old at that point. Although dragon legend goes that he did not merely die, but abdicated his mortal authority in the hopes of ascending among Tiamat by hibernating and increasing his mana power.

While Bashenror's empire was divided and partitioned among his feuding successors, the mountain palace where he is kept remains undisturbed despite a thousand of years passing by, as no dragon dares to disturb his slumber, not even his enemies.

Being part of a civilization, dragons have culture and customs that define their species. Draconic culture and custom reflect expressions of strength and power, core characteristics that define dragons. Here are some examples, ranging from dragon mock-fighting, sport hunting, and literature.

In dragon culture, it is natural and healthy for dragons to fight one another, although fighting in dragon culture is not meant for killing one another, but to show off power through strength and strategic prowess. Dragon fighting varies, ranging from aerial combat to the use of breath weapons on the ground or tackling/wrestling, or a combination of them all. Among royal dragons, duels are a common practice used to settle disputes or done just for sport. Since dragons are a honor based culture, and sore losers are frowned upon. If a dragon loses fair and square to another dragon, it is honorable to accept defeat and submit. Play fighting is also commonplace among dragons, especially for hatchlings and young dragons.

While hunting animals in the wilderness is no longer a critical skill for survival as it was in the past for dragons, but is now more of a sport for royal dragons and nobles (akin to how hunting was for European aristocrats in our world) since royal dragons now have a stable and steady diet through livestock tribute they receive from the territories they rule over. Dragon nobles usually possess a tract of land, such as a forest or a valley, that would be dedicated as a hunting ground where they would use traditional hunting techniques to take down prey. Dragons prefer to attack their prey from the sky, perching on a high peak like a mountain, and when locating prey, fly off and then attack. This can vary, with dragons using either pounce attacks, attacking with their claws, or using their sharp teeth.

In terms of literature, a popular genre in draconic literature is based around Bashenror the Great and the first great dragon kings. For instance, there is the Bashenror Romance (akin to Alexander Romance in our own world) that is an mythologized account of the life and exploits of Bashenror the Great. The chronology covers Bashenror's life from his early life up to when he united dragondom, and Bashenror, documenting his conquests and his reign up to the end of his life. Among Kobolds, a philosophical work that is popular in universities and schools is the Tinvaak. The Tinvaak was written by a Kobold scribe that, unlike the more legalistic Ymmute that covers draconic legal system, is told in a dialogue-style format between Bashenror and another dragon (like Plato’s or Confucius’s works) and discusses various philosophical concepts and ideas in draconic society.

While Lothar can come across as a big dragon when compared to a lesser dragon, being around 60 feet from snout to tail, he pales in comparison to the size of mature great dragons like his father.

Being over 200 years old, Emperor Konigthar over 200 feet in length from snout to tail, being a truly colossal dragon (but not as large as great dragon monarchs in the past). His size is in part due to being a great dragon, a sub-species of dragons that are very powerful and grow to very large sizes, filling the niche as emperor over a dragondom, with a great dragon's power and size necessary to remain unchallenged to the throne.

But one day, Lothar will be as big as his father since he is the son of the great dragon.

Within the confines of a vast cathedral, the glowing embers cracked beneath the three ivory-white eggs that lay on top of it. Each egg was quite large, with each one around four to five feet in height. The eggs sat together in a tight bundle, each one sitting next to the other.

They were still until the egg in the middle gently trembled. It was not an ember breaking underneath it, but life stirring from within. The egg shook again, and a slight crack appeared on the top. The crack expanded until a small black horn pierced the exterior, and upon breaking open, a small head poked out. The young whelp opened its piercing red eyes, releasing a high-pitched squeal-like roar. As the hatchling broke away from the egg, the other eggs followed suit, with two other small black dragons clawing their way out, each the size of a small pony. Together, they made sequel-like roars and whines, gazing around their surroundings for the first time in their lives.

“My heirs,” a booming voice said from above.

Jerking their heads, the three hatchlings were face to face with a colossal dragon that made them look like insects compared to him. The dragon was a deep black with fierce red eyes and bearing sharp teeth. Although instinct should’ve told them to run away in fear, the hatchlings recognized that the dragon staring down on them was their father. He was Emperor Konigthar, the reigning monarch of the mighty Vilthrax Dynasty.

The colossal dragon gently gazed at his heirs, analyzing each of them with his narrowed crimson-red eyes.

“Ah… they have finally hatched, your highness,” a voice echoed.

A much smaller figure appeared out from the shadows near the hatchlings, a bipedal creature that looked similar to a dragon. He was Pfarr, the kobold grand priest of Konigthar’s court. He was a darkish-black kobold with narrowed golden-slit eyes and curvy, crooked gray horns while wearing an elegant robe made of black and purple. While he was not a dragon like them, his draconic scent made him registered as a fellow dragon to the young dragons, combined with his mana aura soothing their nerves.

Next came the moment when a dragon hatchling was determined to be a worthy heir of the monarch through the inspection ceremony: bahlaan. Through this tradition, young dragons with any sort of deformity or runt-status was sorted out, since dragon royalty demanded the strongest and fittest to be potential heirs.

With a nod from the emperor, Pfarr ordered a couple of kobold servants to hoist the dragon with the horned nose with his arms and set him on top of a stone slab with a hefty grunt. The young dragon had no idea what was going on, but the priest used his mana to settle his nerves as he approached him. Pfarr began the inspection, inspecting his teeth, fanning out his wings, feeling his muscles, examining his horns and claws. The dragon sometimes hissed back at the priest when he pressed his hands down on his belly plates, a natural, sensitive spot for dragons, but the priest used his mana to calm him down. The inspection lasted for a solid ten minutes, with the emperor dragon looking down from above patiently with his usual stoic look.

Pfarr finally completed the inspection of the young dragon, looking back to his majesty with a smile on his face.

“He is fit to be your heir, your highness,” Pfarr announced, bowing gently, “He is guaranteed to grow strong, healthy, and a worthy member of your dynasty.”

Konigthar let out a satisfied snort, gently nodding his head in satisfaction.

“Let it be known that a new member of my dynasty has been added,” Konigthar bellowed out, “Spread the news throughout the entire realm, let every mortal know of it.”

Konigthar then gazed down upon the young dragon.

“And as for his name, he shall be called… Lothar.”

Like all sapient species, dragons have specific body language to communicate their emotions to other dragons and even to non-dragons. For dragons and non-dragons alike, knowing a dragon's body language and what gestures to make is very important, as the wrong gesture can come across as a slight to royal dragons if misinterpreted. Knowing body language can also help to understand the emotions of a royal dragon, whether if they are happy, upset, or whatever they are feeling at the moment.

If a dragon seeks to posture to be more threatening, a dragon will have tense body muscles, an arched back, and slightly crouching as if ready to pounce. Their eyes are wide and focused, sharp teeth bared, and emitting curls of smoke from the edge of their mouths. Their wings are flexed and semi-furled out, their claws scratching the ground. If more openly aggressive, a dragon will do the former combined with snarling, throat rumbling, short roars, tail thumping, wings fully furled out, and snorting angrily. If a dragon is irritated due to hunger, they will incessantly pace, emit low-level growls, have narrowed eyes, and scratch their claws on the floor, cues that will make Kobold servants bring forth food as soon as possible.

On the other hand, if a dragon is comfortable and or satisfied, their body language is drastically different than when tense or angry. If a dragon is basking or digesting after a large feast, they will typically yawn, have tired-looking eyes, and rest on their side, exposing their belly while their tails lazily flick, a rare instance of vulnerability for a dragon. If a dragon is affectionate with another, they will nuzzle snouts with each other, emit throat rumbles, brush bodies against each other, intertwine their tails with each other's, groom each other, and do gentle forehead-rubbing. A dragon that is tired or sad will display drooped wings and tail and a lowered head, while an ashamed dragon will have its wings folded against its body and its entire body and head lowered to the ground if in the presence another dragon.

For greeting each other, dragons bow their head down to each other, and if a dragon seeks to depart, they unfurl their wings to indicate their intent to leave. If a dragon keeps their wings folded and then bows, this is an informal greeting. If it is a superior dragon to an inferior, the inferior dragon would bow his head down, while the superior would keep his head raised. If two dragons bow and then lower their heads to each other, that indicates their status as equals. If a dragon spreads their wings low and bows, this is a formal greeting usually done among high-ranking or royal dragons to indicate honored submission. If wings are furled up high, this indicates dominance. If furled low, then submission.

Updated Lothar's form so that he now shows his plate scales, which I found lacking in my prior renditions of him.

For reference, these plate scales on his belly are essentially large plates similar to a scute, and each are around several inches thick and span from his neck, across his chest and belly, and down to his tail. Each are overlaid over the other and act as strong armor to protect his vital organs, while also capable of being flexible.

Ah, a classic soft spot of a Kobold, giving em' some chin scratches! Even the most disciplined of Kobolds cannot resist this! And as you can tell, when they feel affectionate, Kobolds instinctively make a growl-like purr.
