Can you realistically finish an MSc CS at TU Darmstadt in 2 years?

I’m starting my MSc in Computer Science at TU Darmstadt and keep hearing that most students take longer than 2 years to graduate, even though the program is designed for 2 years.

Some people told me it’s completely possible to finish on time, but many students choose to study longer**. I’m someone who wants to graduate quickly and enter the job market ASAP**, so I’m curious:

  • Is finishing in 2 years actually realistic?
  • Why do so many students take longer — difficult courses, thesis delays, part-time jobs, internships, or just personal preference?
  • If someone is disciplined and plans well, can they comfortably finish on time?

Would love to hear real experiences from students/graduates.

I’m an international student from Nepal and I’ve been admitted to an MS in Computer Science program for the April intake in TU Darmstadt. Unfortunately, due to visa delays in my country, I won’t be able to arrive on time, even though I’ve already enrolled for this semester. It seems like the process may take a few more months.

In the meantime, I’d really like to connect with other students who have enrolled in the same program or department. If there are any WhatsApp groups, Discord servers, or other communities, I would really appreciate it if you could share them with me.

Thank you in advance for your help!
