We’re collecting 536 fake sci-fi VHS covers for an exhibition in Lyon, France
Hi VHS people,
We’re doing something slightly ridiculous in Lyon, France: we’re trying to build a VHS library of 536 fake sci-fi movies.
For a collective exhibition called Contre-Fictions, we’re inviting people to design the VHS cover of a sci-fi film that never existed.
It can be a political dystopia, a cheap cosmic B-movie, a lost 1983 space opera, a weird analog horror object, a fake cult classic, a mutant rental-store oddity… basically: make the tape you wish you had found in an old video store.
All covers will be printed and displayed in our VHS library.
30 selected pieces will also be shown on the gallery walls during the exhibition.
Deadline: Sunday, May 24, 2026
Opening: June 5, 2026
Exhibition: June 5–26, 2026
Place: BosKop, Lyon, France
We made templates and a free online tool to help people create their covers.
Important note: AI-generated works can join the VHS library, but won’t be eligible for the 30 wall-selected pieces.
Sorry: the website and submission form are currently in French, but international submissions are very welcome. If anything is unclear, feel free to ask here or contact us.
Here’s the open call:

I’m also adding a few examples of covers we’ve already received, to give a sense of the project.
Mods, no worries if this isn’t allowed here.
