Good evening reddit,
I’ll attempt to keep this short as to not bogg you all down with a long read.
TLDR question: Will calling on the usage of dumbbells alongside wrestling training be enough to maintain strength one has gained with a barbell over a month, if not longer if a barbell is not used?
I am visually impaired, which I feel is important to mention for reasons that will become obvious in a moment. I have just about wrapped up another semester at college and am heading home for six weeks. I am looking to maintain, if not gain strength during my off season for wrestling. Unfortunately, I have no ways to drive to a gym, so I’m stuck with my local gym at home.
The gym equipment I use primarily consists of dumbbells upwards of 75 pounds, a pull up/dip machine, a decline sit up machine and a tredmill. However, I understand this is not the same as barbell work, which I’ve been able to do here at my university thanks to the help of a personal trainer.
My hope is that here and there, I will be able to incorporate some barbell work with my father, or whomever can help me get to a gym. But god forbid I cannot, will six weeks with dumbbell/pull ups/three days of wrestling practice a week be enough to maintain my strength, or will I lose a ton. I hope that this scenario doesn’t play out, however I haven’t found any immediate solutions to this problem at the time of this writing.
Edit: Apologies for bad grammar; it’s almost eleven at night at the time of my writing this. Thank you all who’ve read thus far. I appreciate any kind of comments/feedback you all can provide. I’ll do my best to reply in the oncoming day. Take care
