Hey everyone,
I’m enlisting this Wednesday into the Air National Guard for 1D7X1B (Cyber Systems Operations) and wanted to get some clarity before I sign.
Background:
- Master’s degree (Cybersecurity)
- Currently working in a cyber role
- Certs: Security+, CySA+, PenTest+, and SecurityX (CASP+)
My recruiter has me coming in as E-3, but I’ve seen multiple posts saying people were able to:
- Come in as E-4
- OR get promoted to E-4 after tech school
From what I understand, if it’s not explicitly written in the contract, it’s not guaranteed.
So my questions:
- Is it actually possible to come in as E-4 in the Guard with my background?
- What EXACT wording should I be looking for in my contract before signing?
- Has anyone successfully negotiated this, and how did you approach your recruiter/unit?
I’m not trying to be difficult, just want to make sure I understand everything before I lock in my contract.
Appreciate any insight from people who’ve been through this.
