Before I begin, I’m from Huntington Beach. In 2023 I moved to East Hollywood and lived there til last month and now I live in NoHo temporarily.
I’m looking to move again soon and was thinking of the west side. Cooler temperatures, closer to work (century city & Woodland Hills), closer to the beach. But my roommate is a Silverlake soyboy and doesn’t wanna leave his lil bubble cuz he works over there. The other roommate works in Sherman oaks and doesn’t really care where he lives as long as he can get there in reasonable time. I’m thinkin we move to palms somewhere cuz that’s like right by the 10 & 405 and would be somewhat easy for all of us to get to work. But the Silverlake fucker just complains about the west side.
All my adult life I’ve heard nothing but negative things about the west side. It’s whitewashed, too expensive, pretentious people, no good food, yatta yatta. All coming from “east side” people (no Silverlake and echo park aren’t east side argue with a wall). Yet being up here now for upwards of three years I’m fed up with the “east side”. Hollywood, k town, Silverlake especially, echo park, downtown. Not Los Feliz I like it there lol. But like bro these people are insufferable I stg transplants come here and are equally as annoying and judgmental as they claim the west side to be. You’re not blue collar take that selvedge denim off you cornball.
People claim the east side east side has better nightlife, arguably better food and “culture”, but Jesus Christ I mean is it really that worth it? It’s crowded as fuck it’s hot and it it’s not like there’s a drastic difference in the nightlife… LA is in the shits no matter where you go out, everyone’s in bed early asf.
As someone from OC I could be biased cuz of the similarities between the west side and coastal OC towns but I’m tired of ppl shitting on the west side like the named neighborhoods above don’t have their own problems. East side mfs just like to think they’re cooler or different for living over there lmao.
