For fun I set my Nokia 2780 into 2G only mode this weekend. It has a Tello SIM (T-Mobile network). 2G coverage was very spotty, would go in and out depending on which block I was walking on. I could send and receive plain old SMS messages when I had a signal. I did not try anything else, I knew it would not be a great experience. 4G works just fine.
