How soon should the interactive process begin after an employee needs ADA accommodations? I was told by my employer at the end of October that they could not meet my accommodation. Outside of HR help I began looking to just internally transfer positions with the company, I was offered a position but it didn’t align with familial needs (different shift, lower pay) and I turned it down in early December. Late December HR told me to start applying for positions and they will give me the job. Did I cause the breakdown in the interactive process or did the company? They did not initiate alternative job placement until a month and a half after telling me no, they could not accommodate. Also, they did not hire me for any of the positions I applied for after they finally got on board to help me.
