Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out to see if anyone has experienced similar symptoms or has some insight. For about 2-3 weeks now, I’ve been dealing with a persistent burning sensation in my lower back that triggers specifically when I sit down.
The burning usually starts within 15-20 minutes of sitting. Sometimes the sensation shifts toward my left glute. However, the moment I stand up, the burning disappears almost completely within 30 seconds and doesn’t return as long as I stay on my feet. Recently, I’ve also started feeling a burning sensation in my outer hips, especially when I lie down on my side.
I’m generally very active (lifting and cycling), but during the winter months, I’m off work and spent a significant amount of time sitting and playing video games all day. This sudden change in activity levels might have triggered something.
I consulted with a Physical Therapist who suspects it’s Sciatica. For the past two weeks, I’ve been consistently doing the nerve glide exercises they prescribed. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any improvement; in fact, it feels like it’s getting worse. Previously, I had no issues while lying down, but now the burning starts even when I'm in bed.
Has anyone else had a similar experience where sitting is the primary trigger, but standing provides instant relief? Is it normal for nerve glides to make things worse initially, or could this be something else (like Piriformis Syndrome or Bursitis)?
I’d really appreciate any advice or stories from your own recovery journeys. Thanks!
