After complaining to GPs of pelvic pain and oral contraceptive problems for 10 years with two normal ultrasounds and progressive symptoms after coming off contraceptive, I had an ultrasound at the start of this year with an enlarged ovary, endometrial polyp and suggestive 6cm endometrioma on the ovary.
I was almost excited to have answers for my issues and was finally referred to a public hospital gynaecologist as a semi-urgent case. However, she immediately dismissed me saying pain is subjective, she wasn’t excited by the potential endometrioma and it would be too risky to the ovarian tissue to remove, she was doubtful the polyp would appear on a repeat scan and that I should consider a new contraceptive and prescription pain medication and read up on the neural pathways which could make small flare ups feel bigger. I left feeling defeated and annoyed by this appointment as it felt like there was no progress made and the presence of the endometrioma felt important.
I have just had the follow up ultrasound, which showed no cyst/endometrioma, consistent polyp finding and 25 follicles in the left ovary (which was the side the cyst was previously seen) and querying multi follicular ovaries. I am feeling lost preparing for my follow up gynaecologist appointment. I want to go in to this appointment with an idea of what I want and what I expect and know if I should be pushing for a diagnostic lap in this situation or if that would be unnecessary.
