Transactional lawyer resigning- do you tell your clients that you are leaving?
European M&A/Equity Capital Markets lawyer here.
I handed in my notice a few weeks ago, saying that I will work it off until the end of this month. Moving to a different practice area, so no concerns about clients following me.
I work under 2 partners and, after trying to convince me to stay without offering anything material, they are largely ignoring the fact that I am leaving. No handover process has started and they are keeping me working as if nothing has happened. The clients haven't been notified either.
Should I open up and tell the clients I work with closely in calls? What would you ordinarily do? Or should I just do my time and leave and let them sort it out later?
The clients keep reaching out to me and some do not contact the partners even. Instead of my workload winding down it seems to be full steam ahead and I just want to keep my name clear of any issues.
