This summer, I'm planning to replace ~160ft of fence (constantly falling down from wind) with a cedar hit and miss fence (6ft tall; top 2ft cedar lattice; using postmaster posts). Per local code I'll need posts to go at least 30in down and be set in concrete.
I just priced everything out, and the materials cost is quite a bit higher than I'd been anticipating. Any ideas on how to keep costs down without cutting corners that would reduce the lifespan of the fence? (e.g., I don't want to switch to pressure treated boards)
For example, are there any specific strategies for buying larger cedar stock and ripping/planing it to size instead of buying pre-sized pickets, where the cost is actually cheaper?
