Hey everyone! I’m planning my first sff gaming build and wanted to get some opinions before I start buying the remaining parts.
I mostly play competitive games like CS2 and R6, but also a lot of racing games like Forza Horizon, Assetto Corsa and The Crew Motorfest. I occasionally play single-player/story games too, but multiplayer and racing are definitely the priority.
For shooters I’m not too worried since FPS will probably be high no matter what, but in racing games I’d really like to stay around 120 FPS at ultra settings in native 1440p if possible. My monitor is 2560x1440 180Hz.
I already have a Fractal Terra, a Lian Li SP750 V2 PSU and storage drives, so the rest of the build will be around that.
Right now I’m leaning toward AM5 with a Gigabyte B650I AX, Thermalright AXP90-X53 Full Copper and 32GB DDR5-6000.
The thing I’m not fully sure about is the CPU choice. Since it’s going into a Terra with a low-profile cooler, I don’t really want something that’s going to run insanely hot or constantly throttle. I’ve been thinking about maybe going with an X3D chip, but I’m not sure if it’s actually worth it for this kind of setup or if something like a 9600X would make more sense thermally.
GPU-wise I was originally thinking about getting a used RTX 4070 for around 400€, which honestly seems like pretty good value. But now I’m also considering a new RTX 5070 for around 600€, mainly for better longevity, AI features and 1440p ultra performance.
Not really sure what makes more sense here, especially in a small form factor build.
Would appreciate any advice from people who’ve built in the Terra or have experience with similar setups. Also open to suggestions if there’s anything in the build I should reconsider/change.
