The handiest handyman
Spring AC startup season is here.
Just a reminder that being "handy" is as much about diagnostics as it is about tools.
Neighbor had no AC this week. The system itself wasn't dead. The real problems were a failed thermostat and a bypassed safety circuit.
What I found:
- Failed thermostat replaced.
- Condensate pump safety bypassed with a jumper wire. If the pump failed, the system would have kept running and potentially caused moisture and mold problems.
- Cleaned sludge out of the condensate tank.
- Vacuumed a grocery sack worth of dog hair out of the air handler.
Most spring HVAC calls are maintenance and control issues, not catastrophic equipment failures.
Check your filters.
Check your condensate drains.
Check your safety switches before the humidity hits.
Trying to keep local infrastructure running correctly instead of just "making it turn on."
