Hi everyone so basically I had my first antenatal appointment at 17 weeks with a midwife at the health Centre that’s like adjacent to the hospital. They were discussing whether I needed midwife care obstetric lead care or both due to me having cervix shortening my last pregnancy renal stones recurring medication that I’m on that makes me high risk like lamotrigine and a few other factors. When they were deciding the team leader came in and said “great news we’ve decided you’re going to have MGP care which is like you have your own midwife” and I thought that was great. she you meet the criteria and then she said “you’re indigenous hey” and I said oh no I’m not indigenous and then the whole room went silent and really awkward. The midwife I was with went really pale and glassy eyed and she said oh really, and I said oh did you get the wrong person and she said oh no no, no, definitely not and since then I haven’t been given an appointment for any midwife appointment obviously I have my morphology scan coming up and the OB spoke to me and said because I’m high risk I will have to have an appointment at 20 weeks. I also just had a pharmacist consultant conference call yesterday due to the medication I’m on and she did discuss with me I have a whole team working with me. Yeah I’m just not quite sure to do. They said to me I was going to get a call back at the end of the week to see if I’ve been accepted into MGP care but it just kind of feels like they’re doing it so it doesn’t seem to be discrimination if that makes sense. I don’t know. Maybe I’m overthinking it. I did say I’m

Happy to just have normal appointments like I did with my daughter.

The MGP website says “Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) care

You'll have most of your care with the same midwife during your pregnancy, birth and the first few weeks after your baby is born.

With MGP care your:

appointments will be at home, a community health centre or at hospital

your baby will be born in hospital.

They have midwives who provide cultural support and care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, and women who speak languages other than English.

If you have any complications during your pregnancy, your midwife will arrange for you to see one of our obstetricians.

MGP care has limited spots, so ask your GP for a referral as early as possible.”

Thanks for reading!

UPDATE🌼🌼🌼

Thanks everyone for your experiences and insights. I didn’t mean to sound ungrateful in any regard, just confused and felt awkward. You guys are the best!
