Why is EVERYONE saying that supreme sunny is better than 1st nm sunny?

Why is it that sunny is calling his past self as "foolish" MANY time for no reason at all?

Well, imma debunk that.. lemma get started ..

What made original Sunless special: He was genuinely dangerous , not in a cool power fantasy way but in a this guy will actually betray you way

The manipulation of Auro of the Nine, Shifty and scholar showed he was playing a completely different game than everyone else, he felt real, desperate people do desperate things, that's just human.

What happened with the rewrite: The author basically traded a complex morally grey protagonist for a more marketable hero ,It's a business decision disguised as character development honestly.

Nevertheless,Through 'Sagan Standard' > "This ordinary desperate guy is now noble and heroic"– that's an extraordinary claim and the authors didn't provide extraordinary evidence for that transformation. Original Sunless earned every character beat. Soft sunless just... became it

Also ask yourself these questions: Did the story show spiteful sunless making mistakes because of his spite, or did he succeed through it?

When supreme Sunny calls his past self foolish, does he provide specific examples or just assert it?

did the author in the narrative treat spiteful Sunless as foolish at the time, or only retroactively through supreme Sunny's perspective?

Is Supreme sunny actually achieving more than spiteful Sunles would have in the same situations?

Is it an author justification rather than genuine character truth?

'Hitchens's Razor' > the author is essentially asserting "spiteful Sunless was foolish" but where's the actual evidence within the story? If the proof is just Supreme Sunny saying so , that's not evidence, that's propaganda

'Occam's Razor' > the simplest explanation is that a desperate cornered person making ruthless decisions isn't foolish, that's just rational survival behavior. Calling it foolish is the complicated unnecessary explanation.

And by 'Sagan Standard' as i explained before > "my entire previous self was wrong and foolish" is an extraordinary claim that requires extraordinary proof. Just asserting it through monologue doesn't cut it

The key distinction is:

Author's excuse :

Told through monologue.

Retroactive labeling.

No concrete examples.

New version is just...nicer.

Genuine truth :

Shown through consequences.

Consistent throughout the story.

Specific failures tied to those traits.

New version performs better.

You see what I'm getting at?

My Take:

It's almost certainly the Author's excuse. Here's why – spiteful Sunless's decisions were consistently effective within the story's own logic at the time. If the narrative itself didn't frame them as foolish THEN, retroactively calling them foolish through Supreme Sunny's monologue is just the author trying to retcon the reader's perception. That's not character growth, that's narrative manipulation

This post took about an hour to write which is not that much but I was only writing what's on my mind because it's just stuck in my head.

What if Weaver's enchantment "where's my eye" was supposed to be for cassie since she has one of her eyes stolen and she can see fate albeit not rlly, also , what if after sunny collects all the weaves they somehow get transported to cassie? She genuinely seems like a better epigone of Weaver lol, sunny legit told someone to not trust what says cuz "he big bad demon" but it just came to my mind
