Does a parent's death affect everyone very badly?

Bad means real bad. It's been 4 years since my father died but I can't even wake up a single day without thinking about him. The guilt of not being a good son while he was alive is killing me. I tried therapy, medications and everything but nothing works. But the only thing that gives me comfort is this crippling self blame and punishing myself by smoking.

Idk how to overcome this sadness. This is like a dark cloud over my head always. I cannot laugh , I can't cry, I cannot love.

I wonder is this how all of you feel. Idk how people overcome grief and then follow a normal happy life.
