my Redmagic 11 air review
I like these "unprofessional" reviews from random people, because that's one of the few ways of getting an unsponsored opinion, that's why i figured i do my own after almost 2 months of ownership. TL;DR: would overall recommend, if you don't care about cameras. a bit rustic, but very powerful.
The pros:
- the screen is very nice and bright enough to be perfectly readable in direct sunlight
- battery life is good and will last the day or even two if you're not using it that much
- the overall performance. it runs Arknights (not endfield) stage HS-8 and RA endless mode without lag. this may not tell you anything, but those are NOTORIOUSLY laggy. In genshin you get a small lag every now and then, depending on the area.
- im using the 12gb/256gb version and that is already enough. there is no point in going beyond what other flagships can handle, because a game those phones can't run will simply not sell. and by using the cheapest redmagic you get flagship level computing power for like half the price.
Neutral:
- the front camera may just be the worst camera you can get for this price, but it's good enough for video calls or checking if something is on your face. i take the uninterupted front screen over a good camera any day.
- the finger print scanner has a ~5/6 success chance, so it is very rare that you need more than 2 attemps, which is fine
- the included case feels okay, but the phone already occasionally slips out a bit
- quick charge is neat, but the fan makes charging annoying, especially with slow chargers (more about that in the negatives)
- the shoulder buttons only seem to map to clicks on the screen and dont communicate directly with the game
- neat, but rarely useful additions: IR blaster and the ability to charge other devices like a powerbank
the negatives:
- the camera is bad. but it is 2026-bad, so 10 years ago this would have been a good camera, but you can tell this is where cost was reduced. the preinstalled camera app is however trash, trying too hard to smoothen the image.
- like most phones it comes with preinstalled malware like bookingcom and tiktok
- the fan noise has quite the annoying pitch and it is quite audible (it is roughly the same as a dell notebook). The fan itself is however fairly useless, as one would expect with minimal airflow through like 1cm of the phone. i tried running local AI models and i didnt notice a difference in heating with or without the fan. in both cases the textgeneration slowed down after a short time. i wouldnt mind it breaking, as many reviews complain about.
- this might be an android 16 problem, but it is lacking the "close all incognito tabs" function for when i ... uhh ... try online shopping without cookies.
- the speakers suck and it does not come with a headphone jack, so either you get terrible speakers fighting the fan noise or you can enjoy some noticable audio delay via bluetooth speakers.
- reviews say the phone has connection issues. it doesn't. it did a 2gb play store download at the max speed my internet connection allowed. then i started the game launcher and it wouldnt download. same for other games. turns out the f'in game center for some reason sometimes blocks internet access from game launchers. a phone restart fixes this, but like: the ONE THING your dedicated gaming app should NOT do is making games literally unplayable. wth is wrong with you? (speaking of game center: the phone making engine noises on fan startup by default is cringe and i dont think anyone above the age of 12 will appreciate that)
- games running smoothly does not make the overall smartphone gaming experience much better. as if your screen wasnt tiny enough you have to block big chunks of it with your fingers for the least precise input possible. for any 3D graphics game i still consider this an emergency solution for when i dont have access to my PC, which "only" uses a rtx 2060.
