I was fired a week and a half after making a formal complaint to HR about my boss. They claimed it was for poor performance (although I’ve never once received a warning, unsatisfactory performance review, or even a conversation suggesting I needed to improve)They claimed that firing me has been in the works for months. If they have documentation that they had been planning to fire me prior to the complaint, could a retaliation lawsuit still stand? (Keeping this to minimal detail although there’s much context to it)

I live in Washington but the company is based in Utah. I was a salaried full time employee for several years.
