My daughter is 18 months now and we always taught her to address adults fornally.
Family and close friends are aunt or uncle and all other adults have been introduced as Mr/Ms "First Name"
However, Ive noticed her peers do not get the same couching. The kids in our neighborhood we meet along the way just call me Ana.
This gives me pause.
Is this an old outdated practice? Is it perhaps a cultural difference? (We are latino living in New England USA) perhaps I should stop introducing her to adults this way and allow some assimilation?
No big deal either way, just wondering what other people are doing in general. Culture is always shifting and changing, I find it very interesting!
EDIT: I love this discussion this has fostered. Will try to go through and respond to as many people as I can!
