Shamea is corny. Cringey. Kooky. Weird. Dorky. A try-hard. Cornball.

BUT THAT'S THE POINT!

She generates a unique feeling. She's the friend in your friend group who you love, but you spend a lot of time side-eyeing because they do too much of nothing. But! They round out your circle.

I get it, because I fall into that role. I'm the corny, tryhard, genuine friend that you make fun of. But that's kind of my role in the group. And that's why I appreciate Shamea. She represents a version of Blackness that we recognize, need, but often gets overlooked for the Porsha's/Angela's/K Michelle's.

She creates a contrast on the cast. She's the equivalent of "Bad, Caucasian Dad Humor". And, I agree, she's more of a "friend of", but IMO she's a "Friend-of-Peach-Holder".

If that makes sense?

Shamea isn't Beyoncé. Or Kelly. Shamea is Michelle. But Michelle can hold her own. (I bet you you know more of Michelle's verses than Kelly's!)

"Friend-of-Peach-Holders" are the HWs that are in the grey area of the group like Shereé or even Cynthia. They're woman who balance out the energy of the cast by offering genuine nothingness or complete delusion that you side-eye (e.g. friendship contract) while being able to hold their own in an argument and carry a bone or two.

All of this to say, Shamea is supposed to be cringey. She's supposed to be corny. Shamea is cringey-corny-white-dad-humor. It's okay for you to judge her. She's supposed to be laughed at. And, I think the producers are doing a really good job of defining her character on the show.

She represents the Michelle in all of us.

Shamea represents the Michelle in YOU.
