U.S. citizen here (future U.S./Germany dual citizen). My mom and I recently applied for German citizenship by descent through StAG 5. (We only recently sent in our applications, so I've got a while to figure this out, but I was just curious, so I thought that I would ask now.)

In the meantime, while I am waiting for the 2-3 year process of waiting, I am hoping to apply for and receive a visa to move to France. If I am living there when my German citizenship by descent is accepted, and I want to apply for and obtain my German passport, can I go to the German consulate near where I am living in France to do this, or would I need to come back to the U.S. to get my German passport?

(If I came back to the U.S., it would be the German Consulate in New York City that is responsible for where I am living in the U.S. now. My mom would go there either way, since she isn't planning on moving before getting German citizenship by descent.) It might be easier for us both to go to the German Consulate in NYC at the same time, so we get everything done together, but I was just curious if I HAD to get my German passport from the U.S., since I'm a U.S. citizen.

Thank you in advance!

I am going to be starting a business in the U.S. soon, but I have questions about mileage, namely, what to charge clients and what to use for my taxes.

I plan to charge my clients (whenever relevant) for mileage. But how much do I charge them? And what do I write down on Line 9 on Schedule C (Form 1040) on my U.S. taxes at the end of the tax year? Are there two different calculations I would use, one for clients, one for taxes?

I have determined that it makes more sense for me to use the Standard Mileage rate (currently $0.725/mile), rather than Actual Expenses, for tax deduction purposes. I imagine that I will use that rate to calculate mileage to include on my Schedule C, but then would I charge my clients the actual cost of gas to travel for their project, or do I charge clients the $0.725/mile as well?

Any insight on this would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!
