Hi all, hoping for some guidance here.

I’m trying to figure out if I can apply directly for a German passport or if I’ll need to go through Feststellung.

My grandfather was a German citizen. My father was born abroad and was German at birth. He later naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 2000 (without Beibehaltungsgenehmigung). I was born in 1999, so before he naturalized.

Years ago we thought he had naturalized before my birth, but we recently found his naturalization certificate and confirmed it was actually after.

I have the full document chain (birth and marriage certs, my grandfather’s German passport, etc.), including my fathers last German passport # issued by the local consulate (don’t have the physical passport because they retained it after he tried to renew it 10+ years after naturalizing).

Does this sound like something that could be accepted directly, or would it still likely go through Feststellung?

Thanks!
