I can only choose to go one of these 2 dates, which would you recommend?

Planning to go Japan for 2 weeks (mainly Tokyo/Osaka). I like liveliness/nightlife and good tourism levels. Not sure which of these two periods to go? I know July and August are really hot but I’m thinking October/November might feel a bit dead with the liveliness or be a bit too quiet?
