Hello everyone! I’m looking into purchasing a new vehicle and could really use some advice. This would be my first time financing a car instead of buying something outright from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, so I’m honestly a little nervous about the process.

I’ve been researching different options and right now I’m leaning toward:

2026 Toyota RAV4 (any trim)

Honda CR-V

Mazda CX-5 / CX-50 / CX-30

I’m hoping to put around $5k–$8k down, and my credit score is roughly 740-760.

My priorities in a vehicle, from most important to least important, are:

AWD drivetrain

Sunroof / moonroof

Memory seats

Everything else is more flexible. Reliability, reasonable maintenance costs, and overall value are definitely important too.

I had a few questions for people who’ve gone through this process:

  1. Which of these models would you recommend most, and why?

  2. Are there certain trims I should focus on to get those features without overspending?

  3. Is buying new worth it right now, or should I consider certified pre-owned?

  4. With my credit score and down payment, what kind of APR/rates should I realistically expect?

  5. Are there dealer fees/add-ons I should watch out for?

  6. Is it smarter to get financing through the dealership, a bank, or a credit union first?

7.Any regrets or things you wish you knew before financing your first car?

I’m trying to make the smartest financial decision possible while still getting something I’ll love and keep for years.

Any advice is appreciated!
