Trek Marlin 5 Gen 3 for beginners?

hi, I am new to mtb but I know how to ride a bike and stuff; just basic though. I thought the Trek Marlin 5 gen 3 sounded good but i'd rather have the peace of mind of someone on here giving me a recommendation if they want.
DETAILS:
I will be doing trail riding, downhill looks cool but idk if its for beginners. I will be, again riding mostly on trails. I have a budget of around $1300 usd for the entire build including mods if needed but this can fluctuate a bit

I'm also supposed to list what i liked or didnt like about my old one, but honestly it's just too small for me and is just a basic bicycle. I would say I'm an beginner/intermediate, I know how to comfortably use a bike but I dont do crazy wheelies or jumps. I'm just hoping to get into mtb and have some fun :)

I'm 5'8, 15 and 135 lbs if thats needed.

also the mods I was thinking of getting were
OneUp aluminum pedals $150
ODI Elite Motion Lock-On Grips ~$30

ALSO helmet, glove, and all other stuff suggestions I need as well because I'm completely inexperienced in this lol.

Thanks!
