My (almost) 5 month old started to go to sleep independently the past week. Meaning that we put him in his crib fully awake, kiss him goodbye, turn on white noise and leave the room. Within 1-5 minutes he's asleep, without any crying but maybe some fussing.

This is something that he started doing by himself since we haven't properly sleep trained him. We did encourage this to happen by reducing the support needed gradually (from shushing + bouncing to moving the crib to nothing but white noise). He does this for all his naps (in the crib or on the go) and the beginning of night sleep.

HOWEVER, he will wake up 2h after being put down and every 1-2h after that. The wake ups are quickly resolved, I either feed him and put him down on his crib (drowsy or fully asleep) or shake the crib + shushing. I will only feed him if there has been at least 3.5h since the previous feed otherwise I'd resolve it without boob.

I don't plan to stop feeding him overnight yet, since I don't have the green light from the doctor to do so... But he could go longer stretches without boob (4-6h).

Am I doing something wrong that's making him wake up so often? Shall I do something different? I'd really love guidance on how to reduce the wakings.

Schedule is:

7pm feed then bath, book and gentle play, in bed by 8pm

Wake up at 7:30-8am

Naps: 2.5/2.5/2.5/3 - he will sleep only 30' naps (45' max), .

He's sleeping 12h overnight, 1.5h during the day which seems low for his age but he seems very happy and well rested and when I tried to lengthen the naps I fail or he goes to sleep really late.
