iPhone 17 pro scuffed and chipped in 24 hrs… the struggle is real ;(

17 pro, one day after reception

I received my iPhone 17 pro yesterday, hadn’t received the case I ordered yet. I stupidly took the unprotected phone outside onto the patio this morning, then managed to get it pushed off the table. It was so slippery it flung into the air without any resistance, I just wasn’t mentally prepared for that. And yes I got scuffs on the frame. I genuinely thought these phones were supposed to be pretty scratch proof. The way these look is just cheap, oldfashioned and horrible and I’ve never had these on any previous devices. I felt so stupid and so disappointed until I saw the scratchgate scandal online. Well I still feel very upset but at least it’s obvious this is not the quality I thought I was buying. It looks so cheap. I wish I’d returned it straight away. Sometimes I’m just too slow (especially in the morning… ;( )

I have had an 11 pro for 6.5 years and it’s in absolutely mint condition. Honestly, it’s a beautiful dark green and impeccable and I don’t want to let it go. All I ever had for it was a minimalist leather book style case. I would take it out if I was using a phone stand and obviously nothing ever happened to it cosmetically. The only reason I had to take the leap and get a new one is the battery life.

11 pro - a couple of tiny scuffs after 6.5 years

I care a lot about how these things look and feel, I feel we pay a premium for that! So yeah I’m really disappointed with the 17 pro. I ordered a different case from Macaroon now I know how sensitive it is - it comes in two parts so you can use the leather book case to protect the phone but the phone itself also has a case. It means you protect the camera lenses while not in use. That way you don’t have to take it out of the case for photos etc. I can see why they designed the case that way. You will NOT want to ever take it out of it, I can imagine it will get scuffed as soon as you try and use a phone stand or similar. Sigh. I hope the case will make it look like a million dollars because it’s not exactly pittance we fork out for this stuff. I also bought a special pen you can now get to try and hide those scuffs and chips on the frame. I hope the 18 MP camera will make it worthwhile. I intend to keep it another six+ years ffs. I don’t care how they justify this stupid case. I feel so cheated like WTF.
