Hello everyone, was wondering if someone can help me with this.
My 92 year old father in law was coerced into selling an HK 40 caliber handgun a Remington rifle with a Nikon scope and a couple of other rifles to a nephew of his for $500.
Was turkey hunting this past November with a friend who knows this nephew well and I said to him that I needed to get the guns out of the in laws house when he said “they were sold to this nephew”.
I was like “WHAT? My wife has power of attorney he can’t do that”
Anyway, I texted this individual to bring the guns back more than once and I’d give him the $500 and he finally replied and said “I paid for the guns and I transferred them to my name”.
I took him to small claims court, even got a written statement from his neurologist saying that he’s been treated (I was told by the police it’s a civil matter) and the judge said “there’s guns involved, this is a criminal case” and advised my attorney and I to talk to the police again.
The police said that we need to go to the state police which we did and they were of no help.
I called my county’s DA office more than a week ago left a message, no return call.
Called the state office that handles elderly issues and again nothing.
I just need some type of closure here, we have no paperwork that the weapons were legally transferred
Anyone have any idea how I should proceed?
