I just bought a japanese maple atropurpureum, a wisteria floribunda and a blue carpet juniper from a local nursery, the juniper is in a 2 gallon plastic pot i think and the others are in a 1 gallon pot. Ive read that repotting or transferring them to the ground right now is bad because the leaves have already grown out and it would damage the root system a lot and the plants wont really recover that easily. However I am also not sure if leaving them in such small pots until like late February or March is ok either. I'm in zone 7a/7b and we get really hot weather during the summer, we had pretty consistent 40c last summer which makes me think that if I dont water them like twice a day or something they'll dry out, but we also had extremely cold weather and a lot of snow during late February this year, so maybe the roots will just freeze in such cold weather. What can I do about this?
I also dont know if I should be fertilizing these plants or not, and im also a bit scared of over watering them honestly. So far i have watered them once a day when i felt the soil was a bit dry on top (checked by poking it with my finger) until the water came out of the bottom of the pot a bit. Not sure if thats good or not.
