I've been riding the CTA since I was 8. Ive seen A LOT. The craziest story that I can think of happened in 1999 when I was 13. My best friend and I were heading to The Alley in Lakeview and we were on the Red Line the part of the ride where it's coming out of the subway between North & Clybourn and Armitage. We started to smell a noxious burning smell and then saw smoke. The train came to a stop. The train operator came out and told everyone not to panic. We were on the first car. He proceeded to open the door, fall out and began screaming bloody murder. I couldn't believe my eyes. He was injured. I think he hurt his shoulder but was other wise fine. There was not a fire, just mechanical issues causing the car to smoke. We were evacuated and had to walk on the tracks about 20 yards to the Armitage platform.
