looked at the Wikipedia page "Demographics of the Philippines." It provides data on births, deaths, and natural population growth. I added the Philippine population in 1946 to the natural population growth for the years up to 2024. I found that the current population of the Philippines should be around 89 million. Naturally, this natural population growth doesn't take into account migration from the Philippines, which has amounted to millions of people over the years, so based on these data, the population should be even smaller.

If I look at a map of the Philippines from satellite, the islands don't look as densely populated as Japan. If you look at Japan from satellite, you can see a lot of houses there.
