What determines our preference on mattress firmness??

Obviously a bed is a bed and I don’t think anyone can complain about sleeping in one but why do some people prefer clouds over stone slabs? I LOVE a firm mattress, even with lower my back pain & I’m a stomach sleeper…but after having a couple memory foam mattresses (Casper and another I can’t remember) I felt like I was sinking and suffocating. My partner on the other hand loves a cushy mattress and luckily our mattress is a good in-between but I know he’d prefer a softer mattress. Seems like such a weird thing that we all have a preference for, where does that come from???

Can we all finally admit allergies are entirely debilitating

Luckily I haven’t ended up in the hospital in a while (knock on wood) but the way in which I’d be hospitalized at least twice a year with pneumonia, sinusitis or bronchitis, all because of my allergies. One time I was at an ENT and he immediately admitted me to the ER bc I was grey from a lack of oxygen 😭
Of course being sick is way different than seasonal allergies but why does no one talk about how incredibly debilitating allergies can be?
Aside from ending up in the hospital, I’ve scratched myself bloody because pollen for whatever reason causes my skin to crawl, I’ve nearly avoided several car accidents from sneezing fits or over active dry eyes blurring my vision, working in the food industry isn’t the best environment for sneezing and coughing even if it’s just irritation and not a virus. I’ve begged my parents to let me stay home because of how congested dry and itchy I’ve been while in school.
Now as an adult I just have to grin and bear it and make sure I stay on top of my allergy meds. But the slightest deviation I’m back to looking like a puff pastry with the itchiness of a chicken pox patient 😭 pls tell me I’m not alone??
