Throwaway account, apologies for the long post

TL;DR: G2 getting burned out from research, not a healthy lab environment (derm immunology) - do I consider dropping to MD-only?

MSTP G2 student here. I really like research, but after incredible lab experiences in undergrad and gap years, I had 3 rough lab rotations in medical school. Joined the third lab (dermatology immunology), and passed comps/Qualifying pretty easily. The PI is a big name, and I almost never see him. His lab leadership team really doesn't like me (classic no responses, not providing help unless I ask 4-6 times [not exaggerating], and making critical comments wherever possible). I haven't been super productive, and I'm by no means particularly good at research - but feeling this badly about my PhD research really sucks. I do make mistakes, and my mentor team catches them with harsh criticism. I guess that is what I get for joining a lab that is both dermatology and immunology.

On the positive side, my thesis committee really likes me (and I like them). I am seen as a very strong student in my medical years/among MD faculty. I have won several awards, including an NIAID F30. My clinical interests land somewhere in the radiology/pathology/IM areas.

Any thoughts would be appreciated, grateful for your time.
