TL;DR The gloss, poly finish on the fret board is tacky now that humidity is rising my fingers are "stumbling" way more than all my other guitars that have satin finishes on their necks. What are my options?
The long story: I got this guitar in the fall of '25. Since then, I have shielded the cavity, installed locking tuners, and had the fret ends dressed due to some pretty drastic fret sprout.
Otherwise, it's a great guitar in tone and playability. The problem is, even though the back of the neck has a satin finish, the fretboard is poly/gloss. And now that the humidity is rising, I find it noticeably tacky and harder to bend/glide when playing. It's like when you're walking and you trip on flat ground, and don't fall but look like a big dummy in front of everyone... but I digress.
If it were just a tacky back of the neck I would sand/scuff it to get that satin feel to it, but since it's the fretboard, I'm worried about scuffing the frets. Plus, I don't even know if it would be very effective and it will probably look bad.
I could always get a replacement neck, but that will probably be half the cost of the guitar. While it's in reach financially, I just don't think it's prudent.
If I hadn't already put all the other time, effort and little bit of money into it, I would just sell it and move on. It also doesn't help that I really like it and it plays and sounds great in all other aspects except for the tacky fretboard.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!
