I've never been in an accident before. Someone switched lanes right into my car and I hit the concrete barrier right next to me. The only damage is a very slight dent on the passenger door and my tire that hit the barrier is popped.
I thought by claiming it with my insurance, they'd cover the cost of buying a new tire, but turns out they've just declared it as a total loss. They haven't told me how much they'd pay me for the car yet, but my car is very old (2005 Matrix) so I'm not expecting them to offer a lot.
I'm just in shock that they've deemed it a total loss for what is really just a flat tire... I'm obviously not going to do body work on my beater of a car to fix the dent/paint scratch.
If I don't accept, they told me over the phone that I'd have to get it transported and inspected for it to be road legal again and that would come out of my pocket.
So now, either I get however little amount they'll offer for the car and I'd have to buy a whole new car or I pay hundreds of dollars to get it transported and inspected for it to be legally drivable again... All because of a flat tire... This all feels so ridiculous to me and I'm not quite sure what to do
