For context, I have played through and beat all the current content in the game and am at the point where I can freely max out any weapon I want for testing. I play a lot of Souls and Souls-like games, as well as many survival crafting games, so I'm comfortable with every genre Rosewind is. I also love halberds in general and don't think they're used enough in games. This might be the coolest iteration of the weapon I've seen, and have tried very hard to try to make it work in some way in this game, but it simply lags behind other weapons in usefulness. By extension, strength also feels like it's the least useful of the primary stats (besides Mastery), because of how restricted it's weapons are.

I'll state my personal pros and cons from my experience with halberds (and a little with maces) so you can see my thought process.

Pros

  • Slightly superior sweeping animations. A little better swing angle greatswords, but same reach.

  • Good synergy with the right side talent tree.

  • Is able to break poise with regular attacks.

Cons

  • Cannot perfect parry, rendering block much less effective.

  • Rifles and pistols scale with precision. Blunderbusses and one rifle type scales with Agility. Strength gets no firearms.

  • Probably the biggest issue, slow attack animations. A little too slow. To the point where you are no longer able to interrupt enemy attacks a lot of the time, and instead trade blows.

  • Halberd heavy attacks are not only painfully slow as well, but tend to have issues landing with how narrow it's hitbox is.

With Rapier/saber + pistol, I can control the field with precise shots, perfect parries, and quickly interrupt attacks with my own. With Greatswords I can do everything a halberd does, but better, faster, and safer, with an effective and long reaching heavy attack lunge.

In comparison, my gameplay with halberd is more like me butting heads with enemies like a Beyblade, trading blows in a game where you really, really want to be avoiding taking hits.

That's been my experience with it so far. Yes, I know there's a saber that scales off of STR, but I'm not entirely sure what the point is. Feel free to roast me and call me a shit gamer. Thanks for reading.
