Hi, I'm based in Northern Ireland and I'd like some advice on how sectioning works here. My 54 year old dad has been experiencing a manic episode (or so I believe) for about three months now. He is not diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, but it does run in his family and he does meet a lot of the diagnostic criteria in the DSM-5 for Bipolar I. He has described himself as feeling incredibly euphoric, but believes he is mentally healthy. He was reffered to the CMHT in February, which he initially agreed to, but didn't show up. He was then referred to counselling but told me the doctor said he's "fine" and that he doesn't need to go (false, or at least a twisting of what the doctor really said).

I am planning to leave another letter with his GP next week to update them on his form, but I honestly don't know what else they can do. Is it true that he needs to be an imminent threat to himself or others to be sectioned? He has not become physically violent to himself or anyone else, as far as I am aware, but he is verbally aggressive and incredibly intimidating. Even if sectioning is not suitable in this instance, do I have any other options?
