Should i keep longer hair or trim shorter like in 2nd photo

1st is length now, kinda got mullet-y growth in back but worried its getting too long, which suits me better?

i already use quite a few products to style but finding as my hair gets longer that my hair ends up a mess after the day is over. This is how it looks after i style it and i want something that maintains this look without ruining the style. Any suggestions?
