My friends and I built an app only for UCSB Students
This might be a bit misleading, because it’s also for SBCC students too lol.
Hey everyone👋
I’m a senior at UCSB, and lately my friend and I wanted to solve a big problem in IV that we’ve faced all of our four years.
And that is waste. Every year, as all of you guys have seen, thousands of pounds of furniture, food, clothes, and more, are tossed onto the streets of IV as people move out.
This is surprising, as every year, thousands of freshman are moving into IV, and spend thousands at stores like Target, on furniture.
This lack of miscommunication is what brought my friends and I to create an App called IV Marketplace, where people can connect with each other, and keep things local.
This was the original premise, but it’s changed now. We’ve evolved. We spoke to others, and thought how could we make it even more helpful to the average IV resident.
We add a housing section, so people can post and find subleasers and housing.
But then we also realized, what about student services? That grad photographer, or student barber, who posts on the Snapchat story, or put theirs flyers around IV.
None of them have a platform. So we thought, why don’t we be the platform.
Yes you can find housing and furniture on Facebook marketplace, but not student services. So, we decided to make that out focus too.
We’re a hyper-localized marketplace, trying to create a circular economy. We want to stay local and reduce waste, while keeping things affordable for students. But also, we want students to have a platform, where they can find everything they need in one spot, instead of checking 5 apps, 8 stories, and 20 facebook group chats.
All in one place.
We’re new, so we’re still making changes, and would appreciate if you guys would let us know what you’d want to see next.
But in the end, our goal is to better your guys time in IV.
In my four years here, I’ve looked back and seen so many things I could have done differently if I had the information beforehand. I hope this app closes this gap, and makes your time better at UCSB.
