Plenty of cultivation-style novels frequently go "and they spent the next X time cultivating/practicing their technique" and such. But I'm thinking more of how the Dresden files introduced Michael as Harry's friend with little context, or how Harry frequently refers to jobs that weren't covered in the main books or novellas.
It's just so weird how in a genre so full of characters with insane lifespans, the stories seem so focused on covering every little thing on page. (I understand how the realities of web novels and similar formats encourage that, but still.)
