I'm trying to recall a sci-fi book I read. There was a new data storage that essentially made copyright useless. Crystal storage of some sort, and an anecdote that included someone writing a song for his wife's birthday and when he ran it through the copyright system it came back as similar to a jingle from his youth, I think? May be 20+ years ago, I'm drawing a blank beyond that and Goodreads wasn't any help.
