I've screwed up. My gpu (RTX 4070) isn't booting my displays up. I'm not sure what's going on or how to diagnose which device is causing the problem.
I can get into windows by connecting a display to the motherboard. The GPU doesn't show up in the device manager, nor in the performance tab of task manager.
I'll take you through what led up to the problem. PC was working fine leading up to these actions.
I fitted a thermal grizzly contact sealing frame to my motherboard. (Wish I hadn't started). This involved removing the CPU from the socket.
I consolated my corsair fans on to one controller to free up a PCIe power cable (8 fans, one aio pump on one controller)
Used the freed up power cable to attach to the optional PCIe power on the motherboard for future upgrades.
* Components
Motherboard - MSI Tomahawk x870 - literally only had it a few days
CPU - AMD Ryzen 7900 - had it a couple years
Power supply - corsair rm1000e - new, had it for a few weeks
GFX card - nvidia RTX 4070 - had it a couple years
* What I've done so far
Connected a display to the motherboard and got to windows
Taken the CPU out again and inspected it and the socket. Socket pins are not bent. CPU appears fine.
Disconnected the optional PCIe power cable
Plugged the displays into the other inputs on the GPU - still doesn't work.
Removed and reseated the GPU. Contacts appear fine to me. Inspected the 12vhpwr appears fine on both sides. Power appears to be going to the GPU because it's got an RGB thing on the side
Reset the CMOS
Is this definitely the GPU is dead or could I have done something to the CPU/motherboard that's affecting PCI express socket?
I don't know what to do to diagnose it. I don't have another GPU or CPU. But I do have another compatible motherboard I could try
