In the first episode, Dominic quoted a statement that something to the effect "Britain is in the worst state since the reign Of Charles II, when the king was a pensioner of Louis XIV"

Since when was it accepted that the restoration was the lowest point in English/British history? I never got that vibe learning about the 17th century in school, or heard it made as a point before
