Retaining water in my legs

Im 52 and I have a job where i sit behind a desk most of the time. Ive been playing soccer for a few years now to increase my stamina and this year I've committed to losing weight and getting into a different shape than round. That means eating healthier, no more alcohol during the week, no snacks (apart from occasional low-calory ones), and adding 3x gym to my physical routine.

At the end of the day, and certainly at the end of a legday workout, my ankles are swollen and taken the shape of my socks. It looks disgusting. After a nights sleep it's all gone back to normal. I know my body is retaining water and it goes into my legs and ankles.

Any advice how to address this in a healthy way? Can i get rid of it at all at my age? Or am i simply too late?
