I have a buddy who's really into metal, and I'm looking to introduce him to Midwest emo. It could be a challenge, but I'm hoping to find some assistance or at least a few suggestions to spark his interest.
Have you ever noticed that if you check out any midwest emo playlist on Spotify, like half of the bands aren't even from the Midwest? I think it's weird. I even put together a list of bands I found that are not at all near the Midwest:
Marietta: from Pennsylvania
Mom Jeans: from California
Modern Baseball: from Maryland
Free Throw: from Tennessee
Algernon Cadwallader: from Pennsylvania
Sunny Day Real Estate: from Washington
Pinegrove: from New Jersey
Vs Self: from California
Front Bottoms: from New Jersey
Christie Front Drive: from Colorado
Mineral: from Texas
And I could keep going!
I'm still getting into this genre, but it just seems so strange that none of these bands are actually from the Midwest, and they're classified as "MIDWEST" emo. Can someone who's been around longer help me understand this?
