Could Dexter and Miguel have kept it going?
Spoilers for Season 3, and on.
The first time I watched this season play out, I felt frustrated that Miguel failed to rein in his fervor, and was left wondering how things would have evolved had Dexter had a true accomplice in his work, or something akin to a friend, aside from Harry. Obviously the whole point is that their egos were doomed to collide and that Miguel's cavalier sense of morality and Dexter's code would inevitably become incompatible. But rewatching it now, it's still hard not to wonder how Dexter would have reacted -- say Miguel had the discipline to agree to only go after targets chosen exclusively by Dexter, vetted to Dexter's standards. Would Dexter eventually ease up and share more with Miguel? About his process, or about his past? I imagine Harry would caution against it. And of course, would they have gotten caught? Their takedown of Clemson Galt (an intentionally difficult target) was well coordinated, clearly they're a capable team. If they managed to stay on the same page, how long could they have gone before it fell apart?
